X Slashes Premium Subscription Prices in India by Up to 48%
X, formerly known as Twitter, has announced significant price cuts for its premium subscriptions in India. The move aligns with broader efforts to boost paid subscribers outside the U.S. and diversify revenue streams.
The most notable reduction is seen in the Premium Plus tier, with a 26% drop in monthly cost via the web, now priced at Rs 2,570, down from Rs 3,470. This follows a similar trend across all premium tiers.
The Premium monthly fee via the web has been lowered by 34% to Rs 427 from Rs 650. Meanwhile, the mobile app subscription for the Premium tier now costs Rs 470, down from Rs 900, a cut of nearly 48%.
Annual Basic subscriptions have also been slashed by 34% to Rs 1,700, from Rs 2,590.48. The Basic tier monthly price is now Rs 170, down from Rs 243.75, a 30% reduction.
Spotify has also reduced its premium subscription fees in India by up to 48%. The slight price differences between mobile subscriptions and web-based subscriptions are due to varying payment processing costs and platform-specific charges.
These price cuts are a strategic move by X to attract more Indian users to its premium subscriptions. The company aims to increase its paid subscriber base outside the U.S. and diversify its revenue streams. The reductions range from 26% to 48%, making the services more affordable for Indian users.
