World Economic Peril Predicted by Evonik Leader Due to American Policies

In an interview with the Handelsblatt, Christian Kullmann, CEO of Evonik, expressed concerns about the global economy due to the unpredictable US trade policies. Kullmann questioned the effectiveness of trade agreements between the European Union and the United States, and noted that the constant threat of new tariffs poses a risk of a global economic crisis.

Kullmann's comments indicate a concern about the long-term stability of international trade agreements. He considers it naive to believe that a trade deal can eliminate uncertainty, and believes that the half-life of such an agreement may be short. The CEO of Evonik calls for more determination from companies and politics in Europe, and a decisive European response to the current economic challenges.

The interview highlights the potential impact of US trade policies on the global economy. Kullmann states that uncertainty and fear of unpredictable US government measures are prevalent worldwide. He sees the multilateralism that the German economy has benefited from in recent decades as no longer reliable.

Despite these concerns, Kullmann remains optimistic that both the new German government and the EU Commission will provide the necessary support to the economy. However, he notes that Evonik is not involved in the upcoming investment summit in Berlin, where top company executives will meet with Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) on September 24 and 25, 2025, held at the WECC - Westhafen Event- und Convention Center in Berlin.

Kullmann's statements suggest a call for action from European leaders to address the economic challenges. He believes that the response to "America first" should be "Economy first" for Europe. As the global economy navigates through uncertain times, Kullmann's warnings serve as a reminder of the importance of a strong and united European response.
