Savings on Winter Road Service in Schleswig-Holstein: 7.4 Million Euros Spent

Total expenditure on winter maintenance amounts to 7.4 million euros - Winter maintenance expenses amounted to approximately 7.4 million euros

Hey there! Let's have a chat about a recent update from the Landesbetrieb für Straßenbau und Verkehr (LBV), the regional agency responsible for road building and transportation. They dished out a cool 7.4 million euros for winter road maintenance in Schleswig-Holstein last season. That's a significant drop from the 15 million euros spent in the previous one, all thanks to our friend, the mild winter.

Transport Minister Claus Ruhe Madsen (CDU) and LBV Director Frank Quirmbach gave a thumbs-up to their 515 employees and external helpers, who worked tirelessly to ensure smooth travel for all road users despite the few snowy days. But freezing rain in the morning kept them on their toes!

The team used roughly 15,700 tons of salt and 5,700 tons of salt brine, resulting in over 15,000 working hours. Although the number of vehicles employed wasn't specified in the results, we know that 100 LBV vehicles and 164 from private providers were put into action. The cost of the salt and brine materials set them back around 2 million euros, while other expenses such as spreading vehicles and equipment, and operational costs amounted to a whopping 2.9 million euros. The working hours were valued at 645,000 euros, and external companies pocketed 1.9 million euros for their services.

In the 2023/2024 winter season, the consumption of salt was approximately 26,400 tons and brine around 10,800 tons. Talk about a snowy year!

That's all for now! As always, if you're looking for more specific details on LBV's winter road services expenditure, you might want to get in touch with them directly or check out their official reports and press releases. Have a great day!

In the discussion of savings from the winter road service in Schleswig-Holstein, it's interesting to note that while the LBV spent 7.4 million euros last season, they had spent 15 million euros the year before. This significant drop might be an opportunity to reallocate resources towards other pressing needs, such as community aid or the development of the fisheries industry, which could positively impact the region's Economic growth and overall Development. Furthermore, the reduction in winter road service expenses could potentially be used to enhance transportation infrastructure or reduce fares, thereby benefiting road users directly.
