Wind farm collaboration for energy-demanding development moves forward

In the picturesque region of Nord-Steinbach, Hesse, a significant step towards a greener future is being taken with the planned construction of the Fernewald Wind Park. This wind park, one of several projects in the area, involves the municipalities of Fernwald, Buseck, and Gießen.

The Fernewald Wind Park is expected to be a substantial contributor to the region's renewable energy supply, potentially powering around 43,500 households once completed. The project's developers have made a conscious effort to minimise forest interventions during construction, using existing paths and planning immediate reforestation where necessary.

The operator company for the wind park is currently being established, with up to 70% of the shares set to remain with the municipalities and regional partners. The founders of this company are Hessische Windpark GmbH & Co. KG.

The application for a building permit was submitted to the Government Presidency of Gießen in June 2025, and further implementation steps are being prepared. Expert opinions are being finalised, and the contract partners for the project are Lintas Green Energy GmbH and Land+Forst Renewable Energies GmbH.

The LEA Hesse State Energy Agency has supported the municipalities in this endeavour, presenting the Fernewald Wind Park as part of a series of local projects demonstrating successful energy transition. A short film showcases the collaboration between the three municipalities driving the energy transition forward.

Construction of the wind park is scheduled to begin in 2027, marking a significant milestone in the region's commitment to renewable energy and local participation. The Fernewald Wind Park is a testament to the power of intermunicipal cooperation and regional value creation, paving the way for a sustainable future.
