Wendy's, the global fast-food chain with nearly 6,000 locations domestically and 7,200 overall, has appointed Pete Suerken as the president of its U.S. market. Suerken, who has been CEO of Wendy's Quality Supply Chain Co-Op (QSCC) since 2021, brings over two decades of expertise in the food, beverage, and restaurant industries.

Suerken's appointment follows the departure of Kirk Tanner, the former CEO of Wendy's, who recently joined The Hershey Company. Tanner's departure was unexpected, leaving a significant void in Wendy's leadership. However, Suerken's extensive experience in transforming operations, building profitability, and leading innovation is expected to fill that void.

Ken Cook, who was appointed as the interim CFO of Wendy's last November, emphasizes increasing profitability and accelerating growth as crucial priorities in the U.S. Suerken will lead the business with operational excellence and intensity to achieve these goals.

Before joining QSCC, Suerken served as president of Resin Technology Inc., a leading packaging and materials provider. He also spent 13 years with Restaurant Supply Chain Solutions (RSCS), the co-op for Yum Brands. This background underscores his deep expertise in supply chain and operational leadership, identified as crucial for stabilizing and growing Wendy's U.S. market.

Suerken's first role within Wendy's will be to oversee its biggest market, making it his largest challenge yet. Wendy's has expressed confidence in Suerken's ability to drive operational excellence, improve customer experience, and accelerate growth in the U.S.

Despite Abigail Pringle's significant contributions to Wendy's, including modernizing restaurants and leading restaurant development, she will be leaving the company to pursue other opportunities following a transition period. Pringle, who was previously the president of Wendy's, was not appointed as interim CEO, with the company spokesperson stating that she continues to be a critical leader at Wendy's.

In a statement, Wendy's emphasized Suerken's proven track record of transforming operations, building profitability, and leading innovation. They believe that his leadership will be instrumental in driving Wendy's U.S. business forward.
