Weekend closures affect travel on A81's Engelberg tunnel
The Engelberg Tunnel on the A81, located near Leonberg in the Böblingen district, will be temporarily closed for maintenance on traffic technology over the weekend, from Saturday night to Sunday morning.
The closure will take effect from Saturday, 23:00, and continue until Sunday, 10:00. During this period, traffic will be affected, and drivers are advised to plan their journeys accordingly.
For traffic heading from Karlsruhe towards Heilbronn, the detour will be from the Leonberg-West interchange. On the other hand, traffic from Munich towards Heilbronn will be diverted via the Leonberg-Ost and Leonberg-West exits.
Individual lanes within the tunnel may be affected as early as 21:30. The Federal Highway Authority announced the closure, emphasising the importance of the maintenance work.
During the closure, drivers wishing to join the motorway at the Leonberg-Ost interchange should take the detour to the Leonberg-West interchange. The detour traffic will use the B14 via Böblingen and Sindelfingen.
The Engelberg Tunnel closure on the A81 is a necessary measure to ensure the safety and efficiency of the traffic technology system. The authorities urge drivers to adhere to the detour signs and exercise patience during this period.
