Walmart Tops 2025 Top 100 Retailers List; Rite Aid Plummets

The 2025 Top 100 Retailers list, compiled by Kantar, has been released. The list, ranked by 2024 U.S. sales, sees significant changes due to shifting consumer habits and retail giants' growth. Walmart tops the list with $568.70 billion in sales, while Rite Aid drops to No. 40 due to declining sales and store numbers.

Walmart's dominance continues, with a 7% growth in sales, securing its top hat spot. Amazon.com follows closely with $273.66 billion in sales, a 9% increase. The top 13 spots remain unchanged from 2024, indicating stability among leading retailers.

Rite Aid's fortunes have reversed, plummeting from No. 29 to No. 40. The company suffered a 22% decline in U.S. sales and a 25.5% decrease in U.S. stores. This decline reflects broader trends, such as stabilizing pet ownership levels leading to changes in discretionary spending on pets and related products.

Best Buy (No. 18) and Signet Jewelers (No. 69) both experienced sales drops, with Best Buy losing two spots. Meanwhile, Dollar General (No. 17) bucked the trend with a 3% increase in U.S. stores and 5% sales growth. Target slipped from No. 7 to No. 8, allowing Walgreens Boots Alliance to move up to No. 7.

The 2025 Top 100 Retailers list reflects a mix of stability and change. While some retailers struggle, others thrive, demonstrating the dynamic nature of the retail industry. The list serves as a barometer of consumer trends and the competitive landscape in the U.S. retail market.
