Voith Hydro Wins Major Latin American Contract for Colombia's Largest Hydroelectric Plant
Voith Hydro, a leading global supplier of hydroelectric power generation equipment, has secured a significant contract in Latin America. The company will provide all turbines and alternators for Colombia's largest hydroelectric power plant, the Ituango project, further cementing its position as a sector leader worldwide.
The Ituango hydroelectric power plant, situated on the Cauca River in Antioquia department, will have a capacity of 2,400 MW. Voith Hydro will supply eight 300 MW Francis turbines, along with alternators, speed regulators, cylindrical valves, excitation systems, and busbars. All equipment will be manufactured at Voith Hydro's Taubaté site in São Paulo state, Brazil.
The project, located 170 km from Medellín, is expected to strengthen Voith Hydro's position as a leader in the large hydroelectric power plant sector in Latin America and globally. The first four units will be delivered in 2018, with the remaining four scheduled for completion by 2021. This project will contribute nearly 30% of the continent's hydroelectric power generation equipment, supplied by Voith Hydro.
Voith Hydro's contract with Empresas Públicas de Medellín (EPM) is worth nearly €170 million. As the sole supplier of turbines and alternators for the Ituango hydropower plant, Voith Hydro continues to demonstrate its commitment to the Latin American market and its role in driving sustainable energy solutions.
