Viersen Residents Launch Citizen Energy Cooperative for Local Transition
A group of Viersen residents, led by Dr. Reiner Rohlfs and Tim Kröber, is spearheading an initiative to establish a citizen energy cooperative. An information evening is set for October 9, 2025, at the ALO in Dülken, where the cooperative's concept and projects will be presented.
The cooperative aims to empower all Viersen citizens to participate in the local energy transition, regardless of their housing situation. Dr. Rohlfs, a citizen solar advisor, stresses this inclusive goal. The information evening, starting at 7 PM, is a preparatory event to gather active supporters, as Tim Kröber clarifies that it is not the official founding assembly.
The city administration of Viersen supports the project, and initial talks with political representatives have been positive. The cooperative seeks to bundle citizen engagement and expand renewable energies under local control. Admission to the information evening is free, and registration is not required.
