US Passport Collection Policy Change for Indians: Individuals from India now have the option to either personally pick up their visas or pay for the service to have them delivered.

The US Embassy in New Delhi has announced changes to the delivery preferences for US visa applications in India, effective from 1st August. These changes aim to enhance the security of applicants' passports, documents, and personal information.

Under the new rules, the option for home or office delivery is available for a fee of ₹1,200 per applicant. To avail of this service, you need to follow these steps:

  1. Log in to your profile on the official visa application website: ustraveldocs.com/in.
  2. Click on "Document Delivery Information" on the Visa Application Home page.
  3. Select your name from the list of applicants.
  4. Choose your preferred delivery method — home or office delivery.
  5. Submit the changes and log out.

If you face any technical issues while updating the delivery preferences, use the "Feedback/Requests" option on the portal. Attach a screenshot of the issue and provide your preferred delivery location details. The embassy advises not to contact the call center for delivery preference changes and to keep an eye on the "Messages" section of your profile for official updates.

It's important to note that under the new rules, third-party representatives, including relatives, are no longer allowed to collect passports on behalf of applicants. For minors, a parent or legal guardian may collect the passport, but only with a hard copy of a consent letter signed by both parents. Scanned or emailed copies of the consent letter will not be accepted.

Under the previous rules, applicants could authorize someone else to collect their passport with an authorization letter, a photocopy of the applicant's ID, and the representative's valid ID. However, these rules have been revised to enhance security measures.

For applicants under 18, a parent or legal guardian may collect the passport, but only with a hard copy of a consent letter signed by both parents. Scanned consent letters are no longer accepted for minors under the new rules.

The US Embassy in New Delhi requires all US visa applicants in India to collect their passports and related documents in person starting from 1st August. The home or office delivery service can be arranged by updating delivery preferences online.

These changes are part of the US Embassy’s policy to ensure the highest level of security for all visa applicants in India. For more information, visit ustraveldocs.com/in.
