US Approves Major Arms Sales to Australia and Estonia, Boosting Defense Capabilities
The US has approved major arms sales to Australia and Estonia, including High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS) and various missiles. The deals, worth billions, aim to bolster defense capabilities in the region.
The Pentagon has given the green light for Australia to acquire 48 HIMARS launchers for $705 million. This sale, approved in 2025, will significantly enhance Australia's long-range firepower. Meanwhile, Estonia is set to receive additional HIMARS launchers and missiles, although the exact number and delivery dates remain unclear.
The contract for Estonia includes a mix of 856 Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System (GMLRS) packages and 182 Army Tactical Missile Systems (ATACMS). The total value of this deal exceeds $4 billion. The US State Department has confirmed the approval of 26 HIMARS systems for Canada, but no specific timeline has been provided for Estonia's delivery.
These sales underscore the US's commitment to strengthening its allies' defense capabilities in the face of evolving regional security dynamics. The additional HIMARS launchers and missiles will provide Estonia and Australia with enhanced long-range strike capabilities, contributing to their respective defense strategies.
