UNIDO's Programme and Budget Committee Reaches Consensus on Proposed Budget for 2026-2027 Financial Period

Vienna, Austria - The 41st session of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization's Programme and Budget Committee (PBC) has concluded successfully after three days of deliberations, leading to a consensus agreement on the Organization's biennial budget for 2026-2027. This agreement serves as a strong foundation for UNIDO's work over the coming years, reflecting the Member States' continued support and trust in the Organization's growing relevance in the current global climate.

In his opening address, Director General Gerd Müller highlighted UNIDO's accomplishments, stating, "We've implemented a significant organizational reform, making UNIDO more efficient by reducing bureaucracy and hierarchies and setting clear priorities. Our efforts' success is evident in increased technical cooperation delivery, stronger field offices, and an expanding network of private partnerships. In recent years, we've made significant strides. UNIDO is approaching its 60th anniversary, and we can be proud of what the Organization has achieved during this time, in partnership with our Member States."

The 27 Member States that comprise the PBC reached additional conclusions, serving as the basis for the upcoming 53rd session of UNIDO's Industrial Development Board.

During UNIDO sessions, the Industrial Development Board typically reviews reports from Programme and Budget Committee sessions, considers programmatic and budgetary matters related to UNIDO activities, discusses industrial development policies, strategies, and initiatives aligned with sustainable development goals, and more. Given the successful conclusion of the 41st session of the Programme and Budget Committee, the 53rd session of the Industrial Development Board is expected to focus on reviewing the Committee's outcomes and making decisions based on its recommendations.
