The renovation of the U-Bahn station Schloßstraße in Steglitz, Berlin, has been delayed due to heritage status complications and elevator planning issues, with an expected completion date not before the 2030s.

The station, located on the most important shopping street in Berlin's southwestern district, was opened in 1974 and declared a heritage site, causing work to halt. The Berlin Transport Authority began renovating the station in 2016.

Since early May, another application for a permit from the BVG for the U-Bahn station renovation has been received. The location for the new elevator at the station has been agreed upon, and the commissioning of the elevator is planned for the 2030s.

Delays have occurred in the renovation due to the unfeasibility of the originally planned location for an elevator. All previously open issues have been coordinated with the responsible heritage authorities and integrated into the planning for the U-Bahn station renovation.

The permit for the renovation, including that of the Technical Supervisory Authority, is still pending. According to the Faster-Building Act, the heritage authorities have three months to issue a permit for the U-Bahn station renovation. The application for the permit is already in the approval process within the three-month period.

The Senate administration does not currently expect any further delays or cost increases due to the agreed-upon location for the new elevator. However, a detailed cost and time plan is not currently available for the renovation, and the second construction phase at the U-Bahn station is not yet scheduled with a concrete date.

The current U-Bahn station for line 9 is a temporary structure with bare or graffiti-covered concrete walls and unclad pipes. The renovated station is expected to significantly improve the aesthetics and functionality of the station, making it a more welcoming and accessible place for passengers.

The German Press Agency has made the response of the transport administration to a written inquiry by the two Green Party members of parliament, Antje Kapek and Benedikt Lux, available. The response admitted to the delays in the response from the Senate administration.

In conclusion, the renovation of the U-Bahn station Schloßstraße in Steglitz, Berlin, is expected to continue for many years. The station will remain under construction for the foreseeable future, but the agreed-upon location for the new elevator and the planned commissioning of the elevator in the 2030s provide hope for a more accessible and improved station in the future.

The ongoing renovation of the U-Bahn station Schloßstraße, needing the cooperation of various authorities due to its heritage status, has affected the finance sector as the Berlin Transport Authority requires financing for the project. The renovation, with the planned elevator commissioning in the 2030s, will undeniably impact the transportation industry, improving the accessibility and aesthetics of the station for passengers.
