Ukraine's New Commander of the 47th Magura Separate Mechanised Brigade

Lieutenant Colonel Maksym Danylychuk, a decorated war hero, has been appointed as the commander of the 47th Magura Separate Mechanised Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Born in the village of Barvynivka in the Zviahel district of Zhytomyr Oblast, Danylychuk is a graduate of the National Academy of Ground Forces. His military career began in the 30th Mechanised Brigade, where he has served since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Danylychuk's impressive record includes leading his unit in the defence of Donetsk and Kharkiv oblasts, where his troops successfully wiped out hundreds of Russian troops and substantial amounts of equipment. For his bravery and leadership, he was conferred the title of Hero of Ukraine on 24 February 2024 by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Prior to his appointment, Colonel Yan Yatsyshen commanded the 47th Mechanised Brigade. Oleksandr Shyrshyn, who previously held the position, resigned from his post in August 2025, criticising the command for 'moronic tasks' and unjustified losses in Russia's Kursk Oblast.

The information about Danylychuk's achievements comes from the Zhytomyr Oblast Territorial Centre for Recruitment and Social Support. In February 2023, under his leadership, Ukrainian soldiers pushed back a series of attacks by the Wagner Group in Donbas.

The current commander of the 47th Separate Tank Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces who succeeded Colonel Yan Yatsyshen remains unidentified. Danylychuk's career progression within the 30th Mechanised Brigade includes roles as company commander, chief of staff, and battalion commander.

Danylychuk has also been decorated with the Orders of Bohdan Khmelnytskyi, Second and Third Class, and the Order For Courage, Third Class. His appointment as the commander of the 47th Magura Separate Mechanised Brigade is a testament to his dedication and service to Ukraine.
