UK Government Unveils £26m Flooding Fund to Protect Thousands of Homes and Businesses

The UK government has released the first £26m from its £100m Frequently Flooded Allowance fund. Environment Minister Rebecca Pow stressed the importance of this funding to protect towns and villages from flooding.

Over 2,300 households and businesses in Worcestershire, Cumbria, and the Calder Valley in West Yorkshire will benefit from this initial tranche. These areas have experienced flooding at least twice in the last decade, affecting 10 or more properties each. The fund aims to assist communities in such flood-prone areas.

The £26m is part of the government's larger £5.2 billion investment by 2027 to enhance flood protection in England. The remaining £74m of the Frequently Flooded Allowance fund will be allocated in the coming years.

The first £26m of the Frequently Flooded Allowance fund is now available, targeting 53 flood defence projects. This investment is a significant step towards better protecting communities from flooding, as part of the government's broader £5.2 billion plan.
