Typhoon Bualoi Leaves 35 Dead, Millions Affected in Southeast Asia

Typhoon Bualoi has left a trail of destruction across Southeast Asia, claiming lives and causing significant damage in both the Philippines and Vietnam. The storm, which made landfall in Vietnam as a powerful typhoon with winds reaching 130 km/h, has weakened as it moved into Laos.

In the Philippines, the death toll has risen to 24, with most victims drowned or hit by debris. This tragedy follows the earlier devastation caused by Typhoon Ragasa, which took the lives of 14 people. The Philippine government estimates economic losses from Typhoon Bualoi to be over 1.7 billion pesos (about 29 million US dollars), including damage to infrastructure, agriculture, and the destruction of over 5,200 houses, affecting more than two million Filipino people.

In Vietnam, at least 11 people have been killed, and thousands of houses and businesses damaged or destroyed. The country has experienced 175 deaths and $371 million in damages from natural disasters between January and August 2025. Nine people were killed by a typhoon-related whirlwind in northern Ninh Binh province. More than 53,000 people were evacuated to temporary shelters, and four domestic airports and part of the national highway were closed due to the typhoon.

Typhoon Bualoi has caused widespread devastation, with a combined death toll of over 35 people in the Philippines and Vietnam. The storm has left a path of destruction, with significant economic losses and thousands of Filipino and Vietnamese people affected. Relief efforts are underway to assist those impacted by the typhoon.
