Two Magdeburg bridges are obstructed.
Magdeburg Faces Major Traffic Disruptions Due to Bridge Closures and Road Works
Residents and visitors of Magdeburg should brace themselves for significant traffic disruptions in the coming weeks, as several road closures and bridge demolitions are set to take place.
The most affected areas will be around the Magdeburger Ring, where the ring bridge over Brenneckestraße will be demolished within a week. To accommodate the traffic, car traffic will be directed via the on- and off-ramps of the bridge, while pedestrian and bike traffic will go via Bodestraße and Goslarer Straße.
In addition, a temporary bridge will be built in Halberstädter Straße, and this construction is expected to take around four months. During this time, traffic from A2 will roll from the Sudenburg exit via Halberstädter Straße to the Wiener Straße exit. From A14, the detour goes via Wiener Straße, Südring, and Westring bridge. From the city center, it's via Sudenburger Wuhne to the Wiener Straße on-ramp.
The trams and buses of the Magdeburg Public Transport (MVB) are also affected by these changes. Lines 1, 4, and 10 will be rerouted via Leipziger Straße and Wiener Straße between Südring and Hasselbachplatz until the end of the month.
Unfortunately, the Jordanstraße stop is cancelled, and the MVB warns of significant restrictions and delays.
The mayor has expressed concern about the potential for a traffic crisis in the coming weeks, particularly due to the financial burden this project is expected to impose on the city. As of now, the costs for this project remain unknown.
Other road closures include the Hohenstaufenring road, which is completely closed between Gustav-Adolf-Straße and Gareisstraße from July 7, 2025, to December 31, 2025, due to relocation of the university district heating pipeline. Access to Otto von Guericke University campus is only possible via Gustav-Adolf-Straße during this closure.
Falkenbergstraße street is closed south of the buildings G05/G06/G12 intersection to regular traffic until July 31, 2025, and the northern section will be closed from August 1 to October 31, 2025. Additionally, Denhardtstraße is closed until June 30, 2025, due to civil engineering and pipeline work related to the energy concept.
Detailed information about the changed night bus routes can be found on the MVB's website. Pedestrian and bike traffic from the ring bridge in Halberstädter Straße will go via Bodestraße and Goslarer Straße, while on foot, it's via the Sudenburger Wuhne, and by bike via the Fuchsberg. The detours are clearly signposted and can be viewed on the city's website.
Major traffic restrictions are expected for car, bike, pedestrian, and tram traffic in the coming weeks. If you need detailed, up-to-date bridge closure and detour plans for Magdeburg streets specifically, local municipal or transport authority sources might provide the latest information beyond these search results.
The traffic disruptions in Magdeburg are not confined to the transportation sector, as the finance industry may also face challenges due to the anticipated increased costs and potential loss of revenue.
General-news outlets should closely monitor the progress of these road works and bridge demolitions, as they have the potential to significantly impact various aspects of life in Magdeburg.
