Global movers and shakers in the transportation field convene annually at the UITP Congress, this year in Hamburg till the 18th of June, to discuss the future of public transportation. They delve into ways mobility can be made more sustainable, efficient, and livable.

At the congress, professionals from the transportation industry gather under the UITP flag, an international organization based in Brussels. For four days, they participate in lectures and roundtable discussions on diverse topics spanning from subway systems running every 60 seconds to the integration of public transportation and cycling, the safety of women in transportation, the use of cable cars as transport options, and cybersecurity measures in public transportation.

Additionally, over 330 exhibitors display their transportation projects and models, with startups showcasing their prototypes. Hamburg itself features 17 handpicked transportation transformation projects, as per UITP team Hamburg updates. The program also includes technical tours to the construction of the S4 or U5 lines.

The congress primarily aims to foster exchange. As the transport senator of Hamburg, Anjes Tjarks states, "It's about new technologies, digitalization, the challenges in the areas of climate, environment, health, and quality of life. It's a tremendous opportunity to discuss these themes, as well as the responses, with the international community." Representatives from various countries like France, South Africa, the USA, the UK, India, Denmark, and Morocco are in attendance.

Organized by the International Association for Public Transport, the congress houses nearly 2,000 transportation companies from 100 countries, which make up UITP's membership. Local hosts for the event are the Hamburg Tramway, the Hamburg Messe and Congress GmbH, and the Moia GmbH.
