Tramway modifications have led to the halting of construction at the Old Market and Diesdorf sites.
After a summer of disruptions, the tram services in Magdeburg's city centre are set to return to normal from August 11. The tram lines, excluding those that pass through the closed passage under the Magdeburg Ring at Damaschkeplatz, will operate as usual without detours via the main station and Otto-von-Guericke-Straße.
The resumption of services means that tram lines 1, 4, 8, and 9 will run via the main station/Willy-Brandt-Platz and Otto-von-Guericke-Straße, while tram lines 2, 5, and 10 will run via Breiten Weg again. The daytime interval for trams will revert to the usual 10-minute interval, and bus lines are expected to run more frequently, with schedules usually every 20 minutes or more.
Detailed schedules and route information can be found at www.mvbnet.de. However, it's worth noting that the passage under the Magdeburg Ring at Damaschkeplatz remains closed, and no specific reopening date has been announced. This closure, which began on April 15, 2025, is due to the bridge's condition.
Temporary bridges have been installed, but the overhead lines cannot yet be mounted. Construction works at the Old Market in Magdeburg are being completed as scheduled. Meanwhile, construction measures on the Große Diesdorfer Straße in the west of the city have ended, allowing tram traffic to and from Diesdorf with lines 3 and 5 to resume.
It's important to note that the closure of the passage under the Magdeburg Ring at Damaschkeplatz and the associated construction works may have an impact on commuters and travel times, but specific information regarding this impact is not currently available.
The ongoing nationwide infrastructure challenges, including the slow pace in bridge modernizations across Germany, suggest that the closure could continue for some time. For the latest updates and information, passengers are advised to regularly check the MVB's website.

The resumption of public-transit services in Magdeburg's city centre, including trams 1, 4, 8, and 9, will operate through the main station/Willy-Brandt-Platz and Otto-von-Guericke-Straße, marking a return to the usual route. Meanwhile, industrial growth in the finance sector, particularly in the context of transportation, is of great interest to policymakers, as they grapple with the ongoing nationwide infrastructure challenges highlighted by the bridge's condition under the Magdeburg Ring at Damaschkeplatz.
