From May 24 to June 14, 2025, significant rail track construction works are set to take place along the route connecting Dortmund, Düsseldorf, and Cologne. Deutsche Bahn (DB) is investing over 14 million euros in this track section alone.

During this period, passengers can expect changes in their travel plans due to train rerouting, potential delays, and canceled stops on that section. The exact details of the affected services, including rerouted trains, stations not served, and delay expectations, can be found on the official German rail operator's (Deutsche Bahn) website or local transport authority information platforms like VRR (Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Ruhr).

Here's a summary of the expected impacts:

1. **Schedule**: Construction works are expected to take place between May 24 – June 14, 2025. 2. **Train Rerouting**: Affected trains will likely be rerouted via alternative routes or lines. 3. **Delays**: There may be delays due to construction-related speed restrictions. 4. **Canceled Stops**: Some stations might be temporarily skipped if rerouted trains do not pass through them.

For instance, trains on the RE1 (RRX) line will not stop at their usual local stations between Düsseldorf-Benrath and Leverkusen Mitte. Instead, they will stop at Opladen. Similarly, trains on the RE5 (RRX) line will not stop at Düsseldorf-Benrath, Leverkusen Mitte, Cologne-Mülheim, Cologne Messe/Deutz, and Cologne Hbf. Additional stops will be made at Neuss Hbf and Dormagen on the RE5 (RRX) line.

In long-distance traffic, trains between Dortmund/Düsseldorf and Cologne with stops in Solingen will be rerouted. Some long-distance stops in the Ruhr area will be canceled due to the construction works, leading to changes in departure and arrival times. These rerouted trains may experience delays of up to 15 minutes.

Scheduled S-Bahn trains on line S6 can be used as an alternative between Düsseldorf Hbf and Cologne Hbf during the construction period. The DB will also build soundproof walls along the RRX expansion in Langenfeld and Leverkusen during the construction period.

Construction works will begin on Friday, May 24, at 8:30 PM and end on Friday, June 14, at 9 PM. A large-scale remodeling train will be used for this purpose. Passengers are advised to check the Deutsche Bahn or VRR official notices shortly before travel for the most accurate and up-to-date impact details.

  1. The other industry that might be affected during the rail track construction from May 24 to June 14, 2025, is the automotive industry, as potential delays and changes in travel plans could impact the just-in-time delivery of parts.
  2. Given the construction works on the public-transit system, passengers might find compensation in the finance sector, such as seeking refunds for delayed or canceled trains, or exploring alternative transportation modes like car-sharing or taxi services.
  3. The transportation industry as a whole could face operational challenges during the period of track construction along the Dortmund, Düsseldorf, and Cologne route, as rerouting and delays in long-distance trains may impact logistics and supply chains, leading to increased transportation costs.
