Tom Petty Nears Achieving Top Position on a Chart He Previously Never Reached During His Lifetime

Tom Petty consistently appears on multiple U.S. charts due to fans' ongoing purchases and streams of his popular tracks. His 'Greatest Hits' compilation keeps him in the rock rankings, a common occurrence. Posthumously, he earns a new hit, surpassing a count he was unaware of during his lifetime.

On this week's Rap Digital Song Sales chart, Petty debuts at number 2. He features on a song titled "Last Dance With Mary Jane," which debuts second on the list of America's top-selling rap tracks, not alone in his feat.

"Last Dance With Mary Jane" is spearheaded by Snoop Dogg, and it's part of his new album 'Missionary,' which affects numerous Billboard charts this week. The track also credits Jelly Roll in a featured role, alongside Petty.

Though new to the Rap Digital Song Sales chart, Petty's collaborators are no strangers. Snoop collects his 15th top 10 hit on the list, a multi-genre powerhouse boasting 34 career entries.

Jelly, on the other hand, earns his third top 10 win on the Rap Digital Song Sales chart. His entire list of accomplishment consists of just three tracks.

Another legendary rocker graces the rap ranking this week. Snoop also collaborated with Sting on 'Missionary,' and their joint effort "Another Part of Me" debuted at number 4 last week. Despite a slight fall, it now sits at number 7.

Snoop dominates the Rap Digital Song Sales chart, despite not securing the top spot. This week, "Squabble Up" by Kendrick Lamar takes the crown, with Snoop filling four of the chart's ten slots, thus controlling 40% of the entire roster.

Even as Petty scores his first posthumous hit on the Rap Digital Song Sales chart, his own work continues to thrive on other genre-specific charts. His 'Greatest Hits' compilation, a collection of beloved songs by Petty and his band the Heartbreakers, slips one spot on both the Top Rock Albums (No. 25) and Top Rock & Alternative Albums (No. 32) rankings.
