"Pushpa 2: The Rule" Box Office Performance

The film became the year 2024's biggest opening Indian movie, surpassing SS Rajamouli's RRR with an astounding opening collection of $35.7 million worldwide. It also surpassed the opening day records set by any non-Hindi Indian film in India. The film was also the director's Sukumar, Allu Arjun's, and Rashmika Mandanna's biggest opener.

On its second day, the film reached a total global collection of $56.6 million, and on the third day, it surpassed the $70 million-mark.

"Pushpa"

Sukumar directed the first installment of the "Pushpa" series back in 2021, which swept the nation and became a massive hit. It was not only successful in Telugu markets but also transcended language barriers and did remarkably well in Hindi markets. Sukumar is also the director of "Pushpa 2: The Rule."

In the "Pushpa" trilogy, Allu Arjun portrays the role of a smuggler battling against caste and class systems to establish his rule over his lands. Mandanna is cast as his wife, while Fahadh Faasil portrays the antagonist, an egoist and sadist cop. The first film also features Jagapathi Babu, Rao Ramesh, Anasuya Bharadwaj, and Dhananjaya. Sukumar, through his banner Sukumar Writings, alongside Mythri Movie Makers, has produced the film. Previously, Sukumar worked on "Arya" and "Rangasthalam." Devi Sri Prasad has composed the music, and Mirosław Kuba Brożek has served as the cinematographer for "Pushpa: The Rule."

The new film revolves around the power struggle between smuggler Pushpa (Allu Arjun) and cop Bhanwar Singh Shekhawat (Fahadh Faasil) as they expand their sphere of influence over the red sandalwood crime syndicate.

In contrast to the first film's police officer, Govindappa (Shatru), Faasil's character, Shekhawat, has a different motivation for his actions. Shekhawat is driven by a desire for revenge rather than a desire to punish the bad guys. Despite his brilliant performance, Shekhawat often appears more like a caricature than a deep, enigmatic villain with hidden layers. Interestingly, the character of Pushpa, as well as the film as a whole, display positive growth in traits, moving away from the stereotypes of toxic masculinity.

The second film in the "Pushpa" series also addresses the issue of gender inequality by giving Mandanna's character, Srivalli, a stronger voice. She becomes assertive and even takes action when her family's respect is at stake. The film contains several moments that emphasize gender equality, making it more appealing to those seeking equality in films.

Allu Arjun delivers an impressive performance in the film, particularly in two sequences where he is seen fighting while wearing a saree. These scenes highlight both the emotional and brutally powerful sides of Pushpa's character, transcending logics and gravity. The new film also relies heavily on mythological imagery, with references to the Hindu goddess 'Gangamma Thalli,' who is believed to be the protector of the region.

The film, intended for its loyal fanbase, successfully creates a world that appeals to its target audience, allowing them to connect and enjoy the story.

  1. Rashmika Mandanna's character, Srivalli, in "Pushpa 2: The Rule," demonstrates strength and assertiveness, challenging gender norms within the film.
  2. The director Sukumar, known for his work on "Pushpa" and "Pushpa 2: The Rule," has once again collaborated with producers Mythri Movie Makers for this blockbuster sequel.
  3. In a unique twist, Allu Arjun's character in "Pushpa 2: The Rule" engages in intense action sequences while wearing a saree, showcasing his versatility as an actor.
  4. Fahadh Faasil's character in "Pushpa 2: The Rule," Bhanwar Singh Shekhawat, is driven by a desire for revenge, adding a new dimension to the antagonist role.
