Dresden, Germany – After several months of construction and renovation, key roads and cycle paths in the city are set to reopen, bringing traffic relief and new opportunities for commuters.

The closure of the area around the Carolabridge, which began on September 11, 2024, due to a major construction site, is coming to an end. The construction road from Carolaplatz to Königsufer is scheduled to be dismantled, marking the temporary completion of the site until the start of the bridge's reconstruction. The demolition work at the Carolabridge has been completed, and no new information about the planned reopening date of the bridge has been released yet.

Meanwhile, the Elberadweg on the Neustaedter side has been closed since July 9 due to the Albertbrücke work. Construction workers are currently restoring the cycle path, with the reopening scheduled for October 2, 2025. The Elberadweg on the Sarrasani and Köpckestraße is currently closed for cyclists.

The collapse of the Carolabridge necessitated the immediate closure of the street and the Elberadweg. However, traffic congestion has been regular at the Marienbrücke since the incident. The reopening of the Terrassenufer is expected to bring some relief to the city center. The Terrassenufer, a key road in Dresden's old town, reopened for traffic on September 17, 2025, allowing motor vehicle, bicycle, and pedestrian access. The roadway and sidewalks have been renewed, including asphalt, markings, lighting, granite paving stones, and curbs.

Data on traffic conditions and travel times are being collected to assess the impact of the reopening of the Terrassenufer. Traffic was diverted upstream on the Elbe in November 2024, initially for motor vehicles, later also for cyclists in both directions. The car park at Terrassenufer will reopen on September 22, 2025, with the bus park to follow by the end of October, providing around 70 parking spaces for cars and 22 bus stops in the city center.

The ADFC (General German Bicycle Club) Dresden has urged the city administration to provide detours for the Elberadweg, particularly on the Neustaedter side, to ensure a smooth flow of cyclist traffic during the renovation period.

No new information about the room available notice on the Sebnitzer Straße or the Goethe-Institute looking for guest rooms and guest apartments for its international course participants has been released. However, the reopening of key roads and cycle paths in Dresden is a significant step towards restoring normal traffic flow in the city.
