The box office success of Marvel's film 'Kraven The Hunter' has taken a hit, causing it to slide out of the top 10 rankings.

Kraven the Hunter, the much- Criticized Marvel box office flop featuring Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Russell Crowe, has exited the North American box office top 10 in its third weekend in cinemas.

The R-rated film is the most recent Sony Pictures Entertainment release focusing on a secondary character in their Spider-Man cinematic universe. Previously, the studio released movies such as Morbius, Madame Web and three Venom films.

As reported by The Numbers, Kraven the Hunter raked in an estimated $1.7 million over the weekend for a No. 11 finish at the domestic box office.

With this weekend's earnings, according to The Numbers, Kraven the Hunter has generated $21.1 million domestically and $31.2 million internationally for a worldwide box office tally of $52.5 million against a $110 million production budget before prints and advertising.

In its first weekend, Kraven the Hunter, as per The Numbers, brought in $11 million at the domestic box office for a No. 3 finish, trailing behind Moana 2 and Wicked, which grossed $26.6 million and $22.5 million for the No. 1 and No. 2 spots, respectively.

Following this, Kraven the Hunter dipped to the No. 7 spot at the Dec. 20-22 weekend box office with a domestic take of $3 million, boosting its 10-day total to $17.3 million.

Exiting Sony CEO Defends ‘Kraven The Hunter’

Although the three Venom films starring Tom Hardy have been financial successes at the box office for Sony Pictures Entertainment—including Venom: The Last Dance in 2024—the studio has not enjoyed the same success with its other Spider-Man universe films released this year: Madame Web and now Kraven the Hunter.

In an interview with SPE’s outgoing CEO Tony Vinciquerra, the executive expressed regret over the poor box office reception of Kraven the Hunter in a Dec. 26 interview with the Los Angeles Times.

“Regrettably, [Kraven the Hunter] which was launched last weekend, and my last film launch, is possibly the poorest launch we experienced in the 7 1/2 years, and that didn't work out too well, which I still don't comprehend, as the film isn't a terrible film,” Vinciquerra told the LA Times.

Critics on Rotten Tomatoes disagreed with Vinciquerra, however, and gave Kraven the Hunter a 16% “rotten” rating based on 140 reviews. Madame Web’s reception by reviewers was even worse, as it earned a dismal 11% “rotten” rating from Rotten Tomatoes critics based on 266 reviews.

Like Kraven the Hunter, Vinciquerra defended Madame Web and blamed critics for the film’s box office performance.

“Allow me to briefly touch on Madame Web for a moment. Madame Web underperformed at the box office due to the press attacking it viciously. It wasn't a terrible film, and it performed well on Netflix,” Vinciquerra told the LA Times.

“Strangely, the press opted against backing us for films such as Kraven and Madame Web, and the critics impaled them mercilessly. They also did it with Venom, but the audience adored Venom and propelled Venom to be a massive hit. These are not terribly flawed films. They were just butchered by critics in the press, inexplicably,” Vinciquerra added.

Kraven the Hunter continues to play in cinemas nationwide.
