Termination of employment for 90 individuals following the purchase of the Frankiski premises
In a surprising turn of events, the pharmaceutical packaging plant ISO Arzneiverpackungen GmbH in Bad Königshofen is facing closure by the end of 2025. The plant, which has been loss-making since 2021, was taken over by Bormioli Pharma in 2020 with the intention of securing its future. However, strategic business decisions have led to the closure, with precise reasons yet to be disclosed.
The news of the closure has sparked local opposition, with the Industrial Union of Mining, Chemistry, and Energy (IG BCE) expressing their intention to not give up without a fight. Holger Kempf, district leader of IG BCE, has questioned the reasoning behind the closure and has called for answers regarding the management's efforts to turn the tide in the past six months. It remains unclear what actions, if any, have been taken to improve the site's financial situation.
The site currently employs around 90 employees, and the lack of transparency surrounding the closure has not been reasonably explained to the trade union. As of now, no negotiation dates have been set between Gerresheimer AG, the current parent holding of the site, and the works council.
The news of the Bad Königshofen plant's closure follows a similar trend, with other businesses in the region, such as an auto supplier, also having to abandon their sites. The aim of the negotiations with the works council is to close the site as soon as possible by the end of 2025 and reach an agreement on an interest adjustment and a social plan.
The situation was made clear to the works council and employees on July 17, 2025, and the community is now rallying to prevent the closure. Local politicians and stakeholders are pushing for negotiations or interventions to keep the plant operational and save jobs, although the success of these efforts remains uncertain given the company’s firm decision to close the facility.
