Gujarat Narmada Valley Fertilizers & Chemicals Limited Shuts Down Toluene Di-isocyanate Plant Due to Gas Leak

Gujarat Narmada Valley Fertilizers & Chemicals Limited (GNFC) has announced the shutdown of its Toluene Di-isocyanate (TDI) plant at Dahej in South Gujarat, following a sudden gas leak at the TDI-II Plant.

The incident, which occurred at the TDI-II Plant, Dahej, did not result in any harm beyond the plant premises. GNFC, in a regulatory filing with the exchanges after market hours on Friday, confirmed that the gas leak was contained within the plant premises, with no gas release beyond the plant boundary.

The company stated that the shutdown was a precautionary measure and that they plan to restart the TDI-II Plant at Dahej after completing necessary checks and remedial measures. No new information about the cause of the gas leak was provided in the latest update.

Despite the incident, GNFC reaffirmed its commitment to safety. The company, which is the sole manufacturer of TDI in India, has a strong safety culture and has implemented prompt and effective safe shutdown procedures.

It is important to note that no new information about regulatory filings, property damage, loss of life, or harm beyond the plant premises was reported in the latest update. The company has two plants in Gujarat, one at Dahej with a capacity of 500,000 tonnes per annum, and another at Bharuch with a capacity of 14,000 tonnes per annum.
