Swiss Driver's Racing Opel Stops at German Border, Faces €480 Bill

A Swiss driver, aged 54, faced unexpected charges while transporting his Opel Kadett 1200 S on the A96 at Neuravensburg. The issue arose due to the vehicle's bare chassis, which required re-clearing for customs purposes.

Customs officers intercepted the car and discovered that the chassis was equipped with a roll bar, indicating plans for racing modifications. The driver intended to take the car to Germany for new axles before heading to Switzerland for further racing preparations.

However, the driver lacked the necessary customs papers, leading to a hefty bill. The total amount collected was around 480 euros in import duties and fines. After settling the charges, the driver was permitted to continue his journey.

The incident was confirmed by Hagen Kohlmann, press spokesperson of the Hauptzollamt Ulm. The driver's lack of proper customs documentation resulted in a costly delay, highlighting the importance of proper paperwork for vehicle modifications and international transport.
