Swift Transformation of Kuching City's Public Bus Services Predicted in Five Years by Abg Jo

KUCHING UPDATE: The city's public transport system is set to evolve in the next 5 years, transforming the way locals and tourists navigate the city. Urban Development Minister Datuk Abang Johari Tun Openg has made it his mission to establish an efficient, reliable, and vibrant public transportation system.

Johari emphasized the importance of public transport in reducing traffic congestions during peak hours. To facilitate this, the city's existing four-lane roads will be upgraded to six-lane carriageways, with dedicated lanes for buses. The goal is to have buses running smoothly and consistently—on the dot, as Johari promised.

Johari mentioned that the aim is to achieve a bus frequency of every 5 minutes. This frequency is based on National Key Results Areas (NKRAs), with the ambition to provide commuters with a reliable and frequent service.

In the meantime, Kuching has already taken strides towards modernizing its public transport. The introduction of the Kuching Metro Electric City Bus is a prime example, providing a greener, more eco-friendly alternative to traditional buses. This electric city bus service is accessible through the Kuching Metro app, featuring extensive route details and schedules.

Recently, the BAS.MY Kuching bus service expanded to serve the Batu Kawa area, operating daily from 5:30 AM to 7:30 PM. The enhanced schedule and six additional buses cater to residential, educational, and commercial spots in Batu Kawa, aiming to provide a viable alternative to private cars in traffic-prone areas.

Lastly, Johari mentioned that he would reveal more information about the state's public transportation after a meeting with the Road Transport Department (JPJ). Stay tuned for further updates on this exciting development in Kuching's public transportation!

The Urban Development Minister, Datuk Abang Johari Tun Openg, has plans to extend the overall efficiency of Kuching's public transport system, aiming to improve both the finance sector and the industry by reducing traffic congestion and promoting eco-friendly transportation. In this endeavor, he plans to legislate a frequency of every 5 minutes for buses, following the National Key Results Areas (NKRAs), ensuring a reliable and frequent service for commuters.
