Support for Infineon's AIROC CYW20829 by Engineered for Intel Evo Laptop Accessories Program

Infineon Technologies has announced that its AIROC CYW20829 Bluetooth LE microcontroller (MCU) has been verified for the Engineered for Intel Evo laptop accessory program. This collaboration marks a significant step forward in the Bluetooth human interface device (HID) industry, as it is the first of its kind.

The Engineered for Intel Evo Laptop Accessories Program defines strict Intel requirements for Bluetooth PC peripherals, ensuring a best-in-class direct-to-host connection that maximizes the end-to-end user experience when paired with Intel Evo laptops.

The AIROC CYW20829 MCU is designed to provide a leading wireless experience and convenience to consumers and designers. It is highly integrated, unburdened with unnecessary peripherals, allowing for low-cost package offerings and the ability to route on 2-layer non-HDI PCBs. This high integration reduces external component count, minimizing device footprint and cost.

The key features of Infineon's AIROC CYW20829 MCU for HID applications are impressive. It supports Bluetooth LE 5.4 with a robust link budget of 108 dB, enhancing reception sensitivity and signal quality. The device includes a dual demodulator architecture and a proven long-standing Rx Blocker IP, offering excellent wireless performance. Transmit (TX) power is up to +10 dBm with receive (RX) sensitivity around –106 dBm, enabling industry-leading range and noise immunity.

In terms of power optimization, the ultra-low-power design with Arm Cortex-M33 CPU operating at either 48 or 96 MHz offers up to 20% better battery life compared to legacy Bluetooth LE solutions. Hardware support such as a keyscan matrix to buffer user inputs without CPU core activation reduces power consumption during idle or input scan periods. The MCU can run at two selectable core voltages (1.0 V or 1.1 V) to further optimize power usage.

The AIROC CYW20829 MCU also boasts strong security compliance. It is designed as a "Secure" MCU platform supporting emerging security regulations like the Cyber Resiliency Act (CRA) and the Radio Equipment Directive (RED). It includes a memory protection unit (MPU) and various hardware security features to safeguard firmware and communications.

Intel is excited about the expansion of the Engineered for Intel Evo accessory program to include Infineon's AIROC CYW20829 Bluetooth LE MCU and SDK. This collaboration further extends Intel's industry collaboration towards the goal of enabling amazing end-to-end connected user experiences.

The Intel Evo platform is a superior consumer brand for premium laptops, designed to provide a premium computing experience. Laptop designs that meet the Intel Evo requirements undergo rigorous testing to ensure exemplary performance in terms of responsiveness, battery life, charging capability, form factor, and more. With the integration of the AIROC CYW20829 MCU, next-generation HID devices can confidently "ditch the dongle," providing dongle-free, seamless wireless connections optimized for modern PC ecosystems.

Wireless peripherals are essential for many day-to-day computing activities, and Intel works closely with partners to ensure their devices meet technical requirements in the areas of performance, reliability, and ease of use. Infineon Technologies aims to provide a leading wireless experience and convenience to consumers and designers through the CYW20829 Bluetooth LE microcontroller (MCU).
