STAAR Surgical Shareholders to Vote on Controversial Takeover on October 23

Shareholders of STAAR Surgical are set to vote up on a takeover offer up at a virtual general assembly on October 23, 2025. The deal has sparked controversy, with major shareholder Broadwood Partners leading the opposition. The investment firm, holding 27.5% of STAAR's shares, has criticized the timing, negotiation process, and offer up price. They have been joined in their opposition by Yunqi Capital Limited, holding 5.1% of the ordinary shares.

Broadwood Partners has been vocal in its disapproval, releasing an 80-page presentation urging other shareholders to vote up against the acquisition. The firm, led by David Bailey, a global healthcare and medical device executive with over 40 years of experience, has won over the former CEO of STAAR, David Bailey, to their side. The former CEO, who led the company during an unspecified period, has added his voice to the growing opposition.

The critics argue that the takeover offer up undervalues the company. They believe that the timing of the transaction and the negotiation process have not been in the best interests of all shareholders. Despite the opposition, the final decision will rest with the shareholders who choose to participate in the voting polls.

The future of STAAR Surgical hangs in the balance as shareholders prepare to vote up on the takeover offer up. The opposition, led by Broadwood Partners and supported by a significant portion of shares, has raised valid concerns about the deal. The outcome of the voting polls will determine the next steps for the company and its shareholders.
