SPD's Miersch Revives Schröder, Wiese Influence Debate

SPD General Secretary Matthias Miersch has reignited debate about the role of former Chancellor Gerhard Schröder within the party. Schröder's close friendship with Russian President Vladimir Putin has sparked controversy. Meanwhile, another figure, Heino Wiese, is regaining influence in the SPD through his involvement with two companies, Vision Consulting and Bissendorf Consulting.

Miersch confirmed Schröder's continued presence in the SPD, despite past efforts to expel him. The question now lingers over how much influence Schröder and Wiese, who shares Schröder's pro-Russia stance, will have on the party's Russia policy in the future.

Wiese's current role is senior advisor at Vision Consulting, founded by Mustafa Erkan, a close associate of Schröder. The company offers business, politics, and sports consulting, but its specific activities remain unclear. Previously, Wiese held the same position at Bissendorf Consulting, an energy policy firm led by SPD politician Tjark Bartels and affiliated with the party's Wirtschaftsforum e.V. Wiese is described as a 'versatile and influential personality' by Vision Consulting.

Despite the lack of public details about Wiese's position within the SPD or his energy policy stance, his growing influence through these companies raises eyebrows, potentially signaling a shift in the party's politics.

The SPD faces internal debate over Schröder's role and the influence of pro-Russia figures like Heino Wiese. While Schröder remains in the party, the extent of their influence on its Russia policy and energy stance remains uncertain. The party must navigate these delicate issues as it moves forward.
