South Africa's Solidarity Launches Remote IT Export Initiative to U.S.
South Africa's trade union Solidarity has launched an innovative initiative to connect local IT professionals with international employers. The union has developed an online platform and plans to establish a staffing agency, aiming to facilitate the remote export of South African skills to the United States.
The agreement, a 'micro-trade deal', is initially focused on online IT skills. It allows South African professionals to work remotely for U.S. companies, earning in dollars while living and working in rands. The initiative is a response to the government's failure to secure a broader trade agreement with the United States.
Carel Nel, the founding head of the staffing agency developed by Solidarity, will lead the effort to connect South African professionals with international employers. Peter Wesseloo, Managing Director of Propay Prime U.S., recognises the strong work ethic of Solidarity members and sees substantial opportunities for South African workers in the U.S. market. The long-term goal is to expand this model to include sectors such as finance, online education, communications and design, engineering, project management, and administration.
Solidarity's Chief Executive, Dr. Dirk Hermann, aims to generate thousands of employment opportunities over the next five years through this innovative approach. The union's online platform and staffing agency are set to revolutionise the way South African professionals engage with the global job market, creating a new sector for skilled workers.
