Six Maltese Puppies Rescued from Horrific Conditions on A8 Motorway
Customs officers at the Main Customs Office Augsburg made a distressing discovery on the A8 motorway at the Leipheim exit. They found six Maltese puppies, aged eight to sixteen weeks, in poor conditions. The puppies have since been secured by the veterinary office and are now in the care of the animal shelter Günzburg, awaiting rehoming.
The puppies, intended for the driver's family and neighborhood in Belgium, were in good health overall. However, they suffered from a severe tick infestation. The veterinarian confirmed that the puppies were not properly cared for. They lacked necessary documents, vaccinations, and were transported in boxes that were too small. The driver of the Sprinter vehicle with Moldovan license plates could not present any customs or veterinary documents for the animals. Proceedings for administrative offenses have been initiated due to these animal welfare violations and non-compliance with animal health regulations.
The six Maltese puppies are now safe and receiving the care they need at the animal shelter Günzburg. The driver's actions have led to an investigation, and the puppies will eventually be rehomed to loving families once they have recovered from their ordeal.
