Shift from '4' to '9': DVB service modifications and updates on termination points

Starting from August 11, 2025, the Dresden Verkehrsbetriebe (DVB) will introduce significant changes to tram lines 4 and 9 in the city. These adjustments are designed to accommodate growing passenger demand and the expansion of residential areas in certain locations.

Tram Line 4 will now run from Weinböhla through Radebeul West, Mickten, Neustädter Markt, Postplatz (Wallstraße), Hauptbahnhof Nord, S-Bahnhof Strehlen, and finally to Prohlis. On the other hand, Tram Line 9 will follow the route Kaditz – Mickten – Neustädter Markt – Postplatz (Wilsdruffer Straße) – Pirnaischer Platz – Straßburger Platz – Pohlandplatz – Tolkewitz.

From the Postplatz onward, the lines have different routes. Due to construction on Wehlener/Österreicher Straße, Line 9 will terminate at Tolkewitz until around December 2025. To cover the section between Tolkewitz, Schulcampus, and Laubegast, a replacement service called EV 9 will operate.

One of the key changes is the introduction of the new stop "Florastraße", which will serve lines 7 and 12 and better connect the new vocational school center to public transport. Another noteworthy change is the renaming of the stop at the intersection of Altenberger / Schandauer Straße to Emmanuel-Goldberg-Platz, in line with the city's new name.

The growth of residential areas on Sternstraße and at the Old Leipzig Station is expected to increase passenger numbers on the new route of Line 9, as more passengers will be utilizing the service. In contrast, Line 4 will operate shorter trams due to the new route.

It is estimated that approximately 1,600 students will attend the new vocational school center, making the new stop "Florastraße" a vital addition to the city's tram network. The changes in Dresden's tram network are intended to address the increased passenger demand in the city.

These changes in the Dresden tram network are part of an ongoing effort by the DVB to improve public transport in the city and meet the needs of its growing population.
