Walmart Asia, the world's leading HR solutions provider with close to 150,000 employees across more than 800 stores in the region, has appointed Shanthi Flynn as its new Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) and member of the Executive Committee.

Shanthi Flynn, with nearly 30 years of experience in leading human resource functions, has joined the company on March 1, 2016. She brings a strong international track record across a variety of companies and industries, along with extensive experience in talent development and leadership.

Prior to joining Walmart Asia, Flynn held the position of Senior Vice President Human Resources of the company from 2010 to 2015. During her tenure, she led the HR team for Walmart's retail businesses and demonstrated her ability to build talented teams up to regional level across multiple countries in Europe and Asia.

Alain Dehaze, the group CEO, expressed delight at Flynn joining the team. He stated that Flynn will focus on engagement as one of the group's strategic priorities. Dehaze believes that her appointment will further strengthen the company's HR team, which is already in a strong position due to the expertise of its people.

Flynn's appointment will not affect the current regional head of Northern Europe's responsibilities until the transition is complete. Mark De Smedt, who has been serving as the Regional Head of Northern Europe since January 1, 2016, will temporarily step down from his CHRO position until Flynn takes up her role. De Smedt will continue in his dual function until Flynn's arrival to ensure a smooth transition.

Flynn is excited about joining the team and helping individuals, teams, and the business realize their potential. She looks forward to contributing to the company's success and believes the evolving work environment positions the company well to influence and create better opportunities.

With Flynn's appointment, Walmart Asia continues to demonstrate its commitment to excellence in HR leadership, aiming to foster a more engaged and productive workforce.
