Shakes Head in Disbelief due to Railway Issue

In the heart of Lirich-Nord, residents and city councilor Bülent Sahin are expressing concerns over the significant reduction in the construction of a sound barrier along Wunder and Katharinen streets. This scaling back comes despite earlier promises by the railway for generous noise protection measures, made as far back as 2018.

Sahin, the SPD city councilor for Lirich-Nord, questions the ability of the railway embankment to support a massive structure, but not a noise barrier. He references the ongoing transportation transition and expresses his concern that the railway's incomprehensible decisions may negatively impact the acceptance of railway lines in residential areas.

The limited construction is attributed to technical constraints in the building ground at the height of Katharinen street. A large utility pole with a massive foundation has been installed on the side of the railway embankment, leading to questions about the feasibility of the sound barrier construction.

Sahin demands clarification from the railway in political bodies and criticizes the railway for dismissing the citizens' desire for proper noise protection twice within a year. He suggests that a clear stance from the city leadership on the issue would be significant.

A group of Lirich residents shares the same dissatisfaction, finding it difficult to understand the explanation for the limited construction of the sound barrier. The "Sound Barrier 15" can only be built up to just behind the railway bridge over the Wilms street, leaving the rest of the residential area exposed to noise pollution.

Despite the concerns, the final decision on noise protection in Lirich has not been made yet. Sahin continues to push for answers and advocates for the residents of Lirich-Nord, hoping for a resolution that meets their needs and ensures the acceptance of railway lines in their community.

  1. Sahin suggests that the city leadership should take a clear stance on the issue of finance for the construction of a sound barrier in the transportation and industry sectors, as the railway's decisions regarding noise protection may significantly impact the acceptance of railway lines in residential areas.
  2. The railway's ongoing project in the construction of a utility pole with a massive foundation on the side of the railway embankment, instead of the promised sound barrier, raises concerns about the future of finance and industry investments in the transportation sector within Lirich-Nord.
