Rokstone Debuts Its New Surety Division in the Marketplace

Rokstone, one of the largest and fastest-growing Managing General Agents (MGAs) in the world, has announced the launch of a new Surety Division. This move further cements Rokstone's position as a leading player in the market.

The surety market, particularly for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), has been challenging since the Covid pandemic. However, Rokstone aims to address this issue by delivering underwriting expertise and digital prowess.

The new Surety Division, led by Darren Guymer, Head of Rokstone Surety, brings 15 years of experience from First Underwriting and Aviva. Guymer believes Rokstone offers growth potential for Surety and has an authentic, service-driven culture.

Rokstone's Surety Division is expected to benefit many of its existing portfolio. The division complements the MGA's existing Credit & Surety Treaty division and is backed by A-rated capacity and a broad underwriting appetite across various sectors.

The new division's focus is on addressing the challenges faced by the current surety market, such as limited access, underwriting complexity, and the need for tailored solutions. To this end, Rokstone's Surety Division aims to leverage specialized underwriting expertise and enhance market access for SME clients.

In addition to the Surety Division, Rokstone has also announced the launch of a UK and Ireland Casualty division, headed by Lewis Goodearl. Goodearl, with more than 30 years' experience specializing in insurance, is joining Rokstone following his notice period from Convex.

Rokstone underwrites more than USD 1.1 billion in Gross Written Premium (GWP) across multiple Specialty lines. The MGA, a part of the Aventum Group, has offices across the UK, Europe, USA, Asia, and the Middle East.

Rokstone's proprietary underwriting workbench and commitment to service aim to provide a market-leading surety solution. With the launch of the new Surety Division and the appointment of experienced leaders like Darren Guymer and Lewis Goodearl, Rokstone is poised to innovate in the SME surety space.

Charles Landrum will lead the new Sports & Leisure Casualty division in the US. The launch of these new divisions demonstrates Rokstone's strategic growth approach, with a focus on launching new specialized divisions with expert heads to capture niche markets effectively.

In summary, Rokstone is responding to surety market challenges—such as risk management and market accessibility for SMEs—by launching a dedicated Surety Division under the leadership of Darren Guymer, aiming to deliver focused, expert-driven underwriting solutions tailored to the SME sector. This aligns with Rokstone's broader strategy of launching new specialized divisions with expert heads to capture niche markets effectively.
