Review of First 4 Figures' Gravity Suit Statue: Emulating the Iconic 'Metroid Prime' Armor

"Heck Yeah, Let's Talk Statues, Mate!"

Last year, I dropped a post about First 4 Figures taking on a badass Gravity Suit statue from Metroid Prime. Now, I've finally got my hands on it, and lemme tell ya, it's a beast!

Following the bang-up job Metroid Prime Remastered did on the Switch at the start of 2023, we've been blessed with a wave of goodies from the game. The new Gravity Suit statue is no exception.

As the Remastered version had higher-res models, it's no surprise that the physical Samus merch that followed suit was top-notch.

Now, the Gravity Suit isn't exclusive to Metroid Prime. It's popped up in various Metroid games over the years, starting with Super Metroid. But with this version from Metroid Prime, you could call it the "OG" Gravity Suit.

This physical version is everything I was hoping for. First off, it's a hulking 25 cm tall, making it perfect for your collection or display.

Secondly, the sculpt is impressively detailed, down to the tiny bits of Samus' face you can see behind that badass visor.

Now, here's the kicker. This statue is all lit up with colored lights across the body, giving it a cool, futuristic vibe. Sure, it lacks articulation, but the lights more than make up for it.

Speaking of lights, I should mention the older Light Suit statue First 4 Figures put out a few years back. It's one of my all-time fav suit designs from Metroid Prime 2 Echoes, but taking a big ol' look at this new Gravity Suit makes it clear how far First 4 Figures has come.

Adjustable Exosuit for Enhanced Earthly Movement

Back in the day, I used to want that light suit something fierce. But looking back at it now, doesn't hold a candle to this shiny new Gravity Suit statue.

There are two versions of this Gravity Suit statue: the Exclusive Edition, which sets you back $164.99, and the Collector's Edition, priced at $149.99. The price difference is all about extra goodies like a fancier box and a numbered card. However, the real difference is the Exclusive Edition comes with a rechargeable battery via a USB-C port on the base.

You can swap the battery out too, but you'll need a Philips screwdriver to unlock the battery panel. Considering how the lights are a big part of this statue, having a rechargeable battery in the base is a game-changer, if ya ask me.

Overall, this Gravity Suit statue is an excellent representation of the iconic design from Metroid Prime. It's big, bulky, and covered in lights. While many know Samus and the Metroid games for the, ahem, "mistranslated" Varia Suit, the Gravity Suit is hands-down my favorite design. This statue comes 100% recommended!

Fun Fact: Did you know the design of the Gravity Suit was inspired by a popular cartoon called Voltron? That's right! The original designers drew inspiration from the Lion Voltron's waist when creating Samus' gravity suit.

The Gravity Suit is a crucial power-up in the Metroid series, allowing Samus to move freely underwater and protect herself from extreme temperatures. It's appeared in various Metroid games over the years, starting with the original Metroid in 1986.

In Super Metroid, the Gravity Suit was officially named and allowed Samus to move underwater and withstand extreme temperatures. In 3D games like Metroid Prime (2002), it enabled Samus to traverse areas with extreme temperatures without harm, while providing additional protection against environmental hazards.

In Metroid Prime Remastered (2023), the Gravity Suit retained its functionality from the original Metroid Prime, with updated graphics and gameplay mechanics. It has also appeared in notable games like Metroid: Zero Mission (2004) and Metroid Prime 2: Echoes (2004), where it usually provided protection against environmental hazards, although it didn't specifically allow underwater movement in the latter.

The Gravity Suit has become an iconic part of Samus' arsenal, symbolizing her ability to adapt to challenging environments. Its design has influenced various artworks and cosplays, further solidifying its significance in the Metroid series.

  1. The Gravity Suit statue from Metroid Prime, now available from First 4 Figures, is a worthy addition to any collection, especially for fans of the Metroid series and video games on Nintendo Switch.
  2. In terms of value, this Gravity Suit statue is worth every penny, offering impressive detail, size, and lighting effects that truly bring Samus' iconic design to life.
  3. As the Gravity Suit has been a staple in various Metroid games throughout the years, its inclusion in the Metroid Prime series can be considered the 'OG' Gravity Suit, showcasing First 4 Figures' evolution in creating high-quality statues.
