Down at the Bottom: Omsk's Credit Woes
By the eggbeater, Omsk lands at the bottom of the heap for a popular credit self-ban service in Russia.
Now, let's remind ourselves that on February 20, 2024, the Russian State Duma passed a bill (in two and three readings) that, starting 2025 in Russia, self-denial on credit and microloans becomes a reality.
In simple terms, anyone can protect themselves from situations where swindlers snag a credit in their name, and voluntarily opt-out of agreements for credit and loans.
As per the United Credit Bureau (OKB), for the first month of operation, over 7.94 million Russians have activated self-denial on credits. Omsk landed in 22nd place among 30 regions after just ten days, with a result of 68,279. The author says this suggests Omskers aren't overjoyed about self-denial on credits.
Moscow topped the charts for self-denial registrations: Moscowites activated a whopping 962.0 thousand self-denials in March. In just one month, 129,500 Russians filed requests to lift the self-denial, accounting for 1.63% of the total number of self-denials.
Let's not forget, Omsk residents borrowed around 390.084 billion rubles in 2024, a 19.55 billion ruble increase from the previous year. This increase occurred despite a drop in consumer lending volumes thanks to rising interest rates and stricter requirements for borrowers. Delinquent debt related to loans in the region stood at 4%, matching levels from previous years.
