Railways in Prignitz Region: Minister to Revisit Tender Bids
In a meeting held in the Transport Committee of the Brandenburg state parliament on Thursday, Detlef Tabbert, the Minister of Transport for the state of Brandenburg, announced the potential revision of the tender for regional rail lines RB73 and RB74.
Tabbert, a member of Brandenburg's Social Democratic Party (SPD), expressed his support for these two railway lines, particularly the RB73 and RB74. He stated that the tender, which was newly tendered for 2028 in a Europe-wide procurement procedure, may be revised again due to ongoing discussions involving these regional rail lines.
The oppositional CDU has criticised the tender that has now been made for the RB73 and RB74 lines. Nicole Walter-Mundt, a parliamentarian from the CDU, expressed concern about the potential signal of not ordering trains between Kyritz and Pritzwalk.
In response to these concerns, Tabbert plans to discuss the future of the railway line with Mecklenburg-Vorpommern at a joint cabinet meeting in Neubrandenburg, scheduled for the coming week. The meeting will involve the relevant political parties responsible for regional transport and infrastructure, and a decision regarding the future of the railway line between Neustadt and Güstrow is expected to be made. However, the exact parties involved and the specific decision have not been detailed in the available information.
It's worth noting that initially, trips of the RB 73 north of Kyritz-Am Bürgerpark were not planned. However, a cost-benefit analysis for the regional trains in northern Brandenburg and southern Mecklenburg was conducted, and the results were positive for the reopening of the railway line from Neustadt to Güstrow. If an agreement is reached with Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Tabbert intends to reconsider the tender for lines RB73 and RB74.
Martina Maxi Schmidt, an SPD state parliamentarian, also supports the two railway lines, RB73 and RB74. The Prignitz Express RE6, RB 55, and RB 73 were newly tendered for 2028 in a Europe-wide procurement procedure. The tender for these lines, including RB 73 and RB 74, is currently under consideration.
The "Northwest Brandenburg" network tender was published by VBB in early September. The tender revision discussion involves regional rail lines RB 73 and RB 74, and the outcome of this discussion could significantly impact the future of regional transportation in the region.
