** traveling through Munich's S-Bahn Stammstrecke during Easter: Important Information**
For travelers planning to use the S-Bahn in Munich during the Easter holidays, it is advised to acquire pertinent information beforehand. Deutsche Bahn will carry out significant work on the Stammstrecke around Easter, with a focus on the area surrounding Laim station. From Friday, April 18 (10:40 PM) to Tuesday, April 22 (4:40 AM), there will be no trains running on the western Stammstrecke between Pasing and Donnersbergerbrücke.
Impact on S-Bahn Traffic
No trains will operate in this section, with some lines being shortened, others rerouted, and some completely canceled. Despite this disruption, the city center remains accessible via four lines, and the airport remains connected.
Here is a summary of the line changes:- S1: runs only to Hauptbahnhof (no stops between Moosach and Hbf)- S2: only between Petershausen/Altomünster and Heimeranplatz, and Hackerbrücke and Erding- S3: only between Mammendorf and Pasing, and Donnersbergerbrücke and Holzkirchen- S4: runs only Geltendorf-Pasing- S5/S7: combined into one line – direction Kreuzstraße as S5, direction Wolfratshausen as S7- S6: only between Tutzing and Hbf, and Ostbahnhof and Ebersberg- S8: runs only between Herrsching and Pasing, and Donnersbergerbrücke and Airport
Replacement Traffic and Transfer Options
A replacement bus will run every 10 minutes between Pasing and Hauptbahnhof, stopping at all affected S-Bahn stations. In addition, DB recommends:- Regional trains or S6 for direct trips Pasing-Hauptbahnhof- U-Bahn at Heimeranplatz or Moosach to reach the city center
New Info Columns and QR Wayfinders
For the first time, DB will establish what they call "info columns" at all replacement stops – clearly visible in purple, with route maps and directions. Additionally, QR codes at larger stations will help you locate the replacement bus stop on your phone.
Further Construction Work during Easter Holidays
Work is not only being done around Laim – other parts of the network are affected too:- April 12/13: Replacement buses between Ostbahnhof and Trudering/Johanneskirchen due to works on the signal box (each day, 5:30 AM - 4 PM)- Good Friday (April 18): No S8 train traffic between Pasing and Gilching-Argelsried – replacement buses in operation- April 26/27: Bridge work disrupts S3 between Deisenhofen and Holzkirchen
