Prominent Russian Businessman Andrei Marchenko Detained in Moscow Over Alleged Tax Evasion
Andrei Marchenko, a prominent businessman from Krasnodar and owner of the 'Marton' hotel chain, has been detained in Moscow. The arrest follows an investigation into suspected taxact evasion, with Marchenko allegedly causing damage to the budget of over 97.5 million rubles between 2017 and 2019.
Marchenko's detention comes after a search at his cottage revealed black records, financial documents, and other materials related to the case. This is not the first time Marchenko has faced legal troubles. In March 2023, he was previously detained in Krasnodar for allegedly evading taxes on a large scale. Before his arrest in Moscow, Marchenko was expelled by Russian authorities.
The Ostankinsky Court of Moscow has ruled to arrest all the property of Viktor Momotov, Marchenko's partner and former chairman of the Council of Judges of Russia. The Prosecutor General's Office is seeking to transfer assets exceeding 9 billion rubles to the state. Marchenko's detention in Moscow adds to the existing tax claims against him, with the Moscow branch of the Investigative Committee suspecting him of turbo tax evasion.
Andrei Marchenko's detention in Moscow highlights the ongoing investigation into suspected tax evasion. The arrest of his partner Viktor Momotov's property further indicates the seriousness of the allegations. The case is ongoing, with the authorities seeking to recover the alleged damages to the budget.
