Columbia Threadneedle's Castle Mount Impact Partners Aims for €200M Final Close
Columbia Threadneedle Investments, under BMO Global Asset Management, has launched Castle Mount Impact Partners, a private markets impact fund with a focus on sectors aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The fund aims to reach a final close of €200 million.
The fund's investment approach prioritizes impactful companies delivering solutions for human and planetary needs. It targets a 20% net internal rate of return (IRR) and seeks to build a portfolio of 15 to 20 lower mid-market companies predominantly in western economies. Over 90% of revenues from the companies invested in are expected to be SDG-aligned.
The fund's focus on global megatrends includes environmental sustainability, resource scarcity, ageing populations, digitalisation, and Artificial Intelligence. It also encompasses sectors like health and wellbeing, and equality and inclusion.
The fund's first investment has been made into Kee Safety, a fall protection and industrial safety firm that aims to reduce workplace injuries. This investment underscores the fund's focus on health and industrial safety sectors within its impact scope.
Castle Mount Impact Partners has attracted investment from a range of institutional, wholesale, and high-net-worth investors from the UK and Canada. Columbia Threadneedle expresses gratitude to its first close investors for backing the fund in this venture.
According to Carnwath, these trends offer exceptional risk-adjusted returns, making them attractive for impact investing. The fund's integrated approach aims to generate both financial returns and measurable positive outcomes concentrated on these SDG-aligned sectors.
