The Yellow Line of Bangalore's Namma Metro, inaugurated on August 10, 2025, is now operational and connecting Rashtreeya Vidyalaya Road (RV Road) to Bommasandra across 16 stations over about 19 km. This new line aims to ease congestion in congested corridors in south Bengaluru, including Electronic City and Central Silk Board areas, by providing a faster, more comfortable alternative to road transport.

Key details on frequency and operational updates:

  • Initially, three trains are operating on the Yellow Line with a 25-minute headway during most of the day, starting from 6:30 am till around 10:42 pm on weekdays, and from 7:00 am on Sundays.
  • After 10 pm, train frequency is reduced. BMRCL anticipates increased frequency as more train sets become available.
  • The fourth trainset is expected to be operational by end of August or early September 2025, which will boost the frequency to about every 20 minutes.
  • Upon full induction of all planned trainsets (up to 15 trainsets), expected by March 2026, the Yellow Line will have much higher frequency and capacity.

Commuters have praised the Yellow Line for reducing travel time significantly—making the 19 km journey in approximately 32-35 minutes—and providing a predictable, traffic-free commute especially through traditionally congested IT and industrial corridors. However, some have expressed concerns over the current 25-minute train gaps and policies like the overstaying penalty on platforms, which BMRCL has defended by pointing to operational constraints and the phased ramp-up of services.

The Yellow Line is part of the Bangalore Metro Phase-2 project, which has an estimated cost of approximately Rs 7,160 crore. The opening of the Yellow Line marks an increase in the operational metro rail network in Bengaluru to over 96 km.

During the inauguration ceremony, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was greeted by a large number of people who showered him with "Modi, Modi" slogans and petals while he journeyed towards the Ragigudda station. Despite rainy weather conditions, the event took place successfully. Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Union Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal Khattar, Union Minister of State, Shobha Karandlaje, and Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar were also present at the event.

As the Yellow Line continues to operate and expand, it is hoped that it will continue to ease traffic congestion in several heavily congested corridors and provide a more efficient and comfortable mode of transport for Bangalore's commuters.
