In a briefing at the government, Minister of Energy Erlan Aukenov announced that gasoline prices in Kazakhstan are expected to rise gradually in the near future. This prediction comes after three consecutive years of Russia imposing restrictions on gasoline exports, which has led to a 50% reduction in the illegal export of gasoline from Kazakhstan [1].

The first deputy prime minister, Roman Sklyar, expects these rising prices to be aimed at avoiding a direct outflow of gasoline to neighboring countries. He also suggested the possibility of increasing domestic fuel production as a solution to maintain stability in the local market [2].

Kazakhstan is self-sufficient in gasoline production, and in 2025, the country exported around 70,000 tons of gasoline. However, the recent policy changes in Kazakhstan, such as lifting price caps on gasoline and phasing out subsidies on gas prices, have led to an upward trend in fuel costs, aligning prices more closely with global market conditions [3].

As a result, the price of octane-95 gasoline in Kazakhstan is currently approximately 244.6 Kazakhstan Tenge (about 0.45 USD) per liter. While prices have slightly decreased from 0.47 USD per liter in June 2025 to 0.45 USD per liter in July 2025, they are projected to gradually increase to around 0.46 USD per liter in 2026 and 0.48 USD per liter in 2027 according to economic forecasts [2].

Minister Aukenov reassured the public that there will be no fuel shortages in the country, and there are no issues with gasoline supply in Kazakhstan [1]. Law enforcement agencies have reported a significant decrease in the illegal export of gasoline from the country since the imposition of restrictions by Russia [1].

These restrictions do not apply to countries that have signed an intergovernmental agreement, including Kazakhstan [1]. As the government continues to implement its energy sector reform, it is expected that gasoline prices in Kazakhstan will remain subject to market fluctuations and policy changes.

Due to the restrictions imposed by Russia on gasoline exports, which led to a decrease in the illegal export of gasoline from Kazakhstan, the first deputy prime minister, Roman Sklyar, proposes increasing domestic fuel production as a solution to maintain stability in the local market. This strategy may involve investments in the finance industry to support the expansion of energy production in Kazakhstan.

As a result of the policy changes and global market conditions, the predicted rise in gasoline prices in Kazakhstan may lead to fluctuations in the country's energy industry and potential implications for its financial sector, as the country strives to maintain a balance between meeting domestic demand and maintaining competitive gasoline prices in the global market.
