Parent Bank Recognizes FBN Bank Ghana Through Honorary Actions
First Bank of Nigeria Shines at Afreximbank's Pan-African Awards
In a ceremony marking Afreximbank's 30th anniversary, First Bank of Nigeria Limited stole the show by scooping the Financial Institution of the Year Award. The event, hosted in Accra, celebrated the Annual Afreximbank Meetings plus the inaugural Pan-African Business and Development Awards, in association with the Business Council for Africa (BCA).
This prestigious accolade recognizes FirstBank's instrumental role in promoting trade and investment across the continent. With its subsidiaries across the FirstBank Group, the bank has been a driving force in boosting cross-border businesses - encompassing trade and investment opportunities essential to strengthening trade relations among nations.
In 2021, FirstBank introduced the First Global Transfer (FGT) initiative, designed to facilitate safe, timely, and efficient fund transfers across its network of African subsidiaries. This initiative is not limited to FirstBank Group's customers but is open to every individual resident in a country where the funds transfer originates.
Dr. Adesola Adeduntan, FirstBank Group CEO, expressed deep gratitude for the recognition, stating, "This award reinforces our commitment to promoting trade, finance, and investment opportunities across borders, which have been instrumental to the continued growth and development of the continent and the world."
Victor Yaw Asante, FBNBank Ghana Managing Director/CEO, received the award on behalf of the Group, commenting, "It's no coincidence that the award was handed over in Ghana, where we are focused on making our subsidiary a giant of a financial institution just like our parent in Nigeria."
Prof. Benedict Oramah, President and Chairman of the Board, who has been at the bank for over 29 years, noted, "Contributing to Africa's development is a lifetime vocation...I know it is for all those we have recognized tonight."
FirstBank's recognition is well-deserved, given its consistent stellar performance recognized by reputable global organizations. Among its recent wins is the award for Best Financial Inclusion Service Provider Nigeria 2023 by Digital Banker Africa and Best Private Bank for Sustainable Investing in Africa by Global Finance.
The Pan-African Business and Development Awards aim to celebrate and recognize the excellence of outstanding organizations within the African business and finance sectors. In addition to FirstBank, National Bank of Egypt and Coris Bank were recognized as Financial Institutions of the Year. Eight recognition awards were also handed to Afreximbank staff members to acknowledge their long service, including Prof. Benedict Oromah, who has been serving the bank for over 29 years.
