Pace's Pulse Cermak Line Project Faces Fare Hikes and Service Cuts
Pace's Pulse Cermak Line Project, serving the CTA Pink Line and Yorktown Center, is set for changes in the coming months. Fare increases and service adjustments are on the horizon, impacting paratransit riders, particularly those with disabilities.
The price per trip on the Pulse Cermak Line is set to rise by $1.25. Meanwhile, the Rideshare Assistance Program (RAP) for paratransit riders is facing significant reductions. Previously, riders could use unlimited rideshares, but now they are limited to 30 rideshares per month. Traditional Pace rides remain unlimited.
Pace is hosting two virtual meetings to inform riders about these changes. The first will be held in English on Wednesday, followed by a Spanish session on Thursday. The RTA, which oversees Pace, is grappling with budget challenges and needs to cut costs.
Maggie Daly Skogsbakken, Pace's chief communications officer, anticipates service cuts and fare increases across the entire system. Those with disabilities, who are disproportionately low-income, may struggle with these changes. Curtis Harris, a RAP program user, finds public transportation difficult and Pace paratransit buses time-consuming. Pace is exploring sustainable funding options for the RAP program.
Pace's Pulse Cermak Line Project is set for fare increases and service adjustments, with paratransit riders, particularly those with disabilities, feeling the impact. Pace and the RTA are working to manage budget challenges and find sustainable solutions.
