Over 118 miles of M-5 "Ural" highway will receive repairs in Chelyabinsk region
The M5 "Ural" highway, a crucial link between Moscow and Chelyabinsk, is currently undergoing significant renovation projects. These improvements aim to enhance travel comfort, safety, and reduce travel time for road users.
In the Chelyabinsk region, a section of the "Irtysh" highway is being widened to four lanes this year, and a state contract has been signed for the upgrade of road sections from Kropachevo to Zlatoust. The Ural Federal Road Management plans to renovate approximately 120 kilometers of the M5 "Ural" highway in the region.
The renovation project includes sections from kilometer 1670 to 1675 in the Satkinskiy District, as well as sections from kilometer 1687 in the Satkinskiy District to kilometer 1750 in Zlatoust. Furthermore, sections from kilometer 1774 to 1780 in Miass and sections from kilometer 1609 to 1652 in the Katav-Ivanovskiy District are also part of the renovation project.
The renovation project involves the application of road markings, installation of barriers, and the installation of noise barriers. The contractor is required to bring the road surface to standard by mid-September 2027.
It's important to note that while general roadworks and maintenance activities are indicated by road signs along the highway, no publicly available sources currently provide a comprehensive renovation plan or timeline for distinct segments within the Chelyabinsk region. Road users should expect phased repair and maintenance work as signaled by road signs during summer 2025, but finer details remain unavailable as of late July 2025.
The M5 "Ural" highway section in the Ural Federal District is one of the busiest, with increasing traffic intensity and a high number of heavy vehicles. The "Irtysh" highway in the Chelyabinsk region is also undergoing renovation.
For detailed project plans or official timelines, these are typically disseminated by Russian transport authorities or regional administrations and may be released in official bulletins or local government announcements. Road users are advised to stay updated and follow the latest road signs and warnings for a smoother journey.
