ÖDP and EVG Urge Minister to Save DB's Single Wagon Traffic for Jobs and Environment

The ÖDP party urges the retention of Deutsche Bahn's (DB) single wagon traffic service, citing environmental benefits and job security concerns. The railway union EVG shares these fears, warning of potential job losses and increased CO2 emissions.

Prof. Dr. Herbert Einsiedler from the ÖDP argues that scrapping the service would lead to an additional 32,000 trucks on roads daily, significantly increasing pollution. This would result in an extra 1.7 million tonnes of CO2 emissions annually, according to DB's own figures.

The loss of the service would also mean the loss of thousands of usajobs, as the railway union EVG fears. The future of this Europe-wide service lies in the hands of Federal Minister for Transport Patrick Schnieder (CDU), who took office in May 2025.

The ÖDP and EVG urge Minister Schnieder to reconsider any plans to scrap DB's single wagon traffic service, highlighting the environmental and job-related consequences. Retaining the service would help Germany meet its CO2 reduction targets and maintain employment in the sector.
