NYSTRS Boosts Energy Transition Investment to $400M

NYSTRS, a prominent retirement fund managing $137.2 billion, has significantly boosted its investment in the energy transition sector. The fund has allocated $400 million to companies driving this shift, with a focus on midstream energy and clean technologies.

NYSTRS' latest commitments include a $100 million investment in EIV Capital Fund, which targets midstream energy and energy transition companies. This follows previous investments in firms producing exhaust and emission systems for commercial vehicles, such as BorgWarner Inc. and Cummins Inc. The fund has also supported sustainable plating suppliers, carbon capture and storage initiatives, EV charging infrastructure, and plasma-generated electricity.

Prior to these 2023 commitments, NYSTRS had already invested $300 million in OIC Credit Opportunities Fund IV. Notably, two-thirds of this fund's final portfolio is dedicated to supporting energy transition projects.

NYSTRS' increased investment in the energy transition space, totalling $400 million, reflects the fund's commitment to supporting a low-carbon future. With private equity holdings accounting for 11.4% of its overall portfolio, NYSTRS continues to diversify its investments in line with evolving market trends and environmental priorities.
